Dodecatheon alpinum, commonly known as alpine shooting stars, are some of my favorite wildflowers. They grow near lakes, and in marshy areas; they're often accompanied by swarms of mosquitos, but nevertheless are worth a few bites to get close enough to see their multicolored details in purple, pink, yellow and black.
