This original image by Hanna Hedstrom is drawn in the traditional style using pencil and ink, then edited and colored using Adobe’s products.
This is a Sierra Nevada Red fox, an extremely rare species living in the northern parts of the Sierra Nevada. Until 2014, one had not been spotted in Yosemite for nearly a century! I drew this image from a photograph recorded by a motion sensor camera, and used a variation of it on t-shirts for our Yosemite wilderness staff. To me, this red fox is a true symbol of wilderness and demonstrates its necessity.
